Mothers, babies and health workers in the community

We are pleased to welcome The Compassion Project as a new BKFA Field Partner.

This organisation provides healthcare and education in the remote Himalayan valley of Tsum, Nepal. Birthing kits are not available in Tsum.

The Compassion Project, like so many of our partners, face many challenges; in this case specifically reaching extremely remote communities. BKFA provided 200 birthing kits which will take around 7 days by foot (by a porter) to reach the distribution location.

The Compassion Project told us that:

‘Tsum is a seven day hike from the nearest large centre, plus another one-day bus ride to Kathmandu. It is extremely remote and located in the high Himalayas. Maternal and infant death is an ongoing issue. Two of our founders lost their sister in childbirth; it is sadly common’
