SAVING WOMEN’S LIVES COSTS LESS THAN A CUP OF COFFEE
ACT Minister for Women, Ms. Kathy Gallagher will tomorrow (SATURDAY) take part in the ACT Zonta Clubs Birthing Kit Assembly event. The kits will assist women in Uganda to have access to safe and hygienic childbirth.
“Birth related infections are a major health issue for women and babies in third world countries,” said Ms Gallagher.
“Many women give birth with only the support of a traditional birth attendant – or sometimes with no help at all. This is something that women in Australia thankfully never have to consider when they’re having a child.
These simple kits cost less than a cup of coffee, but make a huge difference to the lives of women and babies. I’m delighted to join with other Canberrans in giving my time to this very worthwhile cause.”
The simple kits, which contain basic but essential items can prevent infection or death or women and newborns.
“I would urge people to get involved in this important event.”
